We call the top number the **Numerator**, it is the number of parts we **have**. We call the bottom number the **Denominator**, it is the number of parts the whole is **divided into**.

A fraction is a **part of a whole**.

**Equivalent fractions** have the same value, even though they may look different. To find equivalent fractions we multiply the top and bottom by the same number. If we divide the fraction by the same number then we **simplify** the fraction. To find the **reduced fraction **we need to calculate the decomposition of the numerator and denominator.
